Suggested Guidelines for Crafters While setting up Home Craft Party Central, a number of crafters put our heads together to come up with some guidelines for those of us who are participating in this program. Each crafter is of course free to make their own decisions on these issues, but for those who are not sure where to start or what kind of discount to give, for example, we hope this will help. We do encourage crafters to follow the guideline on shipping time to make it easier for the people who give the parties to work with us all. We have a discussion mailing list at YahooGroups which crafters are invited to join, where we discuss home craft parties, ask and answer questions, and exchange suggestions on how to make this enterprise as successful as possible. We also encourage you to browse through the crafters' websites listed on our home page to get some ideas on how to set up your own participation in this program. Pricing Home Craft Party Central is set up to regard people who give the home craft parties as independent sales reps, who are responsible for all their own taxes and licenses. We offer them discounts off the selling price of our crafts, and they take orders at the parties and buy the crafts from us. The suggested discount is 30%. Payment The sales rep will take orders at the party and collect payment from their guests at that time. The sales rep will send the orders to the crafters along with full payment (selling price less the discount). Shipping Charges We recommend that crafters set a shipping charge for each item. The sales rep will collect the shipping charges from the guests along with payment for the items they are ordering, and will include the shipping charge with the payment they send to the crafter. Shipping Time We have set three weeks as a guideline for shipping, and encourage crafters to meet that time frame so the sales rep receives all the orders around the same time and can deliver them to the customers. Samples Sales reps will be required to purchase sample items of the craft lines they will be representing. We suggest that crafters price the samples at 50% of their selling price. Catalogs Some of the crafters participating here have created catalog pages on their website that the sales reps can print out and use in a binder. Another option is to create a catalog of photographs to send to the sales rep. Some crafters may have printed material which they would prefer to use. We encourage everyone, whichever method they choose, to do it in a way that will fit in a three-ring binder. Crafters' Websites Crafters can list their already existing website, or create a special section on their website for selling through home craft parties. Promotional Materials We feel that it is only fair to the sales reps that we do not include our own promotional material with the crafts that we furnish to fill orders (such as our website address where the customer could purchase directly from us). If they are interested in purchasing more items, they should do it through the sales reps. Selling Other Than at Home Parties It is possible that some sales reps will want to sell our crafts in other venues as well as at home parties, such as on their own website. It is up to each crafter to decide if they will allow this. Order Forms For everyone's convenience we have created two order forms for sales reps to use. They are in the form of .gif files and crafters can download them and include them on their own websites if they wish. One order form is to be used to take orders at the party and the other is for the sales rep to send orders to the crafters.
